They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover — but what about the genre, key words and plot? In a Christmas themed twist, the LRC has been lending novels that are completely wrapped in Christmas paper. A few vague words are your only hint to what lies within… It is known as a “blind date”.
“A lot of students who come into the LRC don’t know what they want to borrow so they just browse or ask for a recommendation,” explained Alison the LRC Manager. “Charlotte one of our student ambassadors thought it would be a good idea to set up a kind of lucky-dip table where you get to pick a book at random. It’s been really successful.”
All ‘blind date’ book covers are completely covered in Christmas paper — with just a few word cues on the gift tag to give you an idea about the book’s content. “We just offer a broad topic which hints at the genre, so if you feel like reading an adventure or romance you can search for the relevant word cues.”
Katie a year 12 student said “I like the idea as it makes you read things you wouldn’t normally pick up introducing you to new forms of literature”.
