Seven years after opening, news of success stories relating to those who studied at One is beginning to filter through.
The college has put lots of hours into working with alumni. Every year we host an annual ceremony that rewards former students for their efforts. (This year's ceremony takes place on 4 Jan 2018).
Former success stories include Buffy Milner who is currently working as an actor in Los Angeles and Luke Handley who finished his A-levels in September before starting a prestigious graduate training scheme with the Jardine Motor Group who own Bentley.
Now two former students have returned to One.
21 year old Alex Woor is from Ipswich. He studied A-levels at One and then went to study Maths at the University of Essex, gaining first class honours. Since September, he has been working at One helping others with their maths in his role as an instructor.
"I loved it here and it's great to be back although I never really went away."
Whilst at university, Alex continued to live in Ipswich and helped others at One who were re-sitting GCSE exams for around one day a week. He continued: "Long term, I can see myself staying here for my career. I would recommend One to others. I think it's a great bridge between school and further learning – it's a very empowering environment for a young person. You can be who you want to be. I'm sure I won't be the last former student to come back and teach here."
22 year old Cameron Dilley has also joined the payroll at One. He studied four A-levels and then took a physics degree at the Royal Holloway campus of the University of London. Cameron gained a 2:2 and he has just started as a technician in the science department.
He said, "I set up a club to help others when I was at One. This inspired me to work in education and become a teacher. I also worked as a private tutor whilst I was at university. I had so many highlights as a student and now I'm looking to gain many more as an employee. It's been great coming back – everyone has been very helpful."
Deputy Principal, Jenny Milsom, said, "We would like to congratulate Alex and Cameron. It's great for us that they have enjoyed their time at One so much that they want to start their careers with us.
They can relate to the students via their experiences here and we wish them very long and successful careers in education."
