The chess team challenge on Monday 4th March was extremely popular; the well-established core members of the One chess club took to the atrium at lunchtime and set up their stalls ready to take on all challenges. Students and staff couldn’t wait to take part and test their skills against the top players at One in the open Chess Café event.
Organiser of the chess challenge, Economics Teacher Will Pierce said “There was a fantastic response to this event; the tables were all busy with chess players of all abilities pitting their wits against one another. It was great to see”.
"The aim of the event was to raise the profile of Chess at One, and to recruit new members to Chess Club. Chess Club has been running since September 2012, during this time we have developed a Chess Ladder League, learnt new opening tactics and toyed with some fun chess variants”.
