Sports students from One organised a day of sport with Capel St Mary pupils and hosted a series of athletic events including triple jump, throwing and running. The aim was to support the youngsters as they prepared for their upcoming sports day.
18 year old Chris Allcock organised the entire event with the support of his classmates.
“As part of my course you have to run a large scale sporting occasion and I was keen to do this with a group outside of the sixth form. Everyone was assigned roles; we sorted out health and safety aspects and taught a series of sessions to group of around ten. 66 students were involved in total. I work as a football coach away from my course so this helped and I love doing this sort of thing and eventually want to be a PE teacher. It’s very rewarding to see the children enjoying themselves whilst getting fit at the same time”.
Kelly Ashby, a teacher from Capel St Mary said, “The children are preparing for their sports day so this was great training. I think the children definitely got more confidence from this and they will be able to use these skills at their upcoming sports day.
The overall occasion was linked in to a broadening your horizons day where youngster from the primary school also got to participate in events based around beauty, street dancing, animation and engineering.
