Diploma Level 3 - Performing Arts Extended Certificate
WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?
This course suits those students who have a strong interest in gaining practical skills and experience in the Performing Arts. It is designed to help you extend your understanding of the performing arts, develop your skills in the disciplines of Drama, Dance and Musical Theatre, and learn new ones in our purpose-built performance spaces. Students will fully participate in all aspects of production and work on a variety of written and practical projects.
Students will take five units made up of four mandatory units and an optional unit. Everyone will study the following mandatory units:
- Prepare to work in the performing arts sector
- Proposal for a commissioning brief
- Influential performance practice
- Combined arts
These units will give you the opportunity to develop your understanding of the performing arts in wider contexts, including the way the sector works. You will develop skills and broaden your knowledge as a performer. There will be opportunities to perform to a range of different audiences and create work in a variety of styles and genres. You will study the work of performing arts practitioners to help you develop practical ideas for performance.
WHAT DO I NEED TO JOIN THE COURSE?
A GCSE in any Performing Arts subject at Grade 9-4 or its equivalent vocational qualification at Merit or Distinction. However, if this has not been taken, then considerable practical experience is required in Performing Arts.
CAN I TAKE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS?
This qualification can be taken alongside other BTEC or A Level qualifications. You can discuss the suitable subject combinations at interview. This qualification is the equivalent of one A Level.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The course is made up of five units: Prepare to work in the performing arts sector, Proposal for commissioning brief, influential performance practice, combined arts and one optional unit chosen by teaching staff.
The units are graded Pass, Merit and Distinction and the qualification is graded Pass, Merit Distinction and Distinction*. Learners can resit an examined unit once before they complete the qualification.
This course is designed as both a practical, and academic, course. Marks are awarded based on a combination of written assignments, evaluations, practical workshops and performances.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS?
There are no costs to study on any of our courses. Students should budget for trips to performances and concerts in order to gain maximum benefit from all of the Performing Arts courses. These will take place periodically throughout the year at a cost of approximately £15 - £20 per trip.
WHAT IS THE DURATION?
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate is the equivalent of one A-level and it will be delivered over two years.
