Certificate of Enterprise

Subject

Entrepreneurship/Supporting Business Start-ups

Need Identified

A recognisable and increased need in our local economy for students to have the skill-set to potentially start their own business or pursue self-employment / freelance opportunities.

Case Study

Work with local entrepreneurs and agencies to produce and deliver a programme of study (extra-curricular) in support of the understanding, skills and knowledge needed to consider self-employment or being your own boss.

Programme runs in the Spring term over a number of weeks culminating with the opportunity for the students to set-up and launch a micro-business of their own.

The sessions include networking opportunities for students to mix with local business people and learn how to pitch themselves and their ideas to potential partners and investors.

Worth Mentioning

Fantastic links with local business and entrepreneurs willing to give their time and advice in support of the next generation of business people in Suffolk.

We have had some student micro start-up success already, such as clothing lines, year-books in Primary schools and gardening services.

Impact

Increased understanding of an alternative progression option for students. Increased confidence and skill-set, able to promote themselves and their ideas with different stakeholder groups in different (professional) environments.
