Nicola Manning from One has been awarded a silver 'further education (FE) lecturer of the year award' from the publishing and examinations giant called Pearson.

Selected from thousands of nominations, Nicola (a resident of Felixstowe) is one of just 68 silver award winners from across the country who will be celebrated today [19 June], on 'Thank A Teacher Day' – a campaign that aims to recognise the lasting impact that teachers have on people's lives.

As a result of winning the silver accolade, the biology teacher has now been automatically shortlisted to win one of 13 Gold Awards and will find out how she fares during a glittering ceremony that will take place on 20 October 2019 at the Roundhouse in London. (This ceremony will be broadcast on BBC2 on 27 October).

Principal of One, Jenny Milsom, said, "We are thrilled for Nicola. It's a tremendous achievement and to get outside recognition like this on a national level helps emphasise some of the amazing teaching talents that we have at One."

Rod Bristow, President of Pearson UK, said: "Congratulations to all of our silver award winners. Recognising and celebrating teachers for the lasting impact they have on young people's lives is crucial, and that's why Pearson is delighted to support these awards every year."

Nicola will officially receive her silver award in front of her colleagues from 8.30am on Friday 21 June 2019. Other teachers who have been highly commended in this competition will also receive certificates on Friday.

Earlier in the year, One student (Heather Lewis) picked up a bronze award in the 'art and design student of the year category' and in 2018, One was named 'BTEC college of the year' – both of these awards were also overseen by Pearson.

Michael Morpurgo, President of the Teaching Awards wrote a letter to One to congratulate staff for their amazing work. Read a copy of the letter here.
