Is One Sixth Form College a good college?

What grades do I need to get in? 
Applicants must meet both the standard entry requirements and the individual course requirements.  

Standard Entry Requirements:  

For A Level and equivalent courses such as Extended Certificates, AAQs and Diplomas: 6 GCSEs grades 9-4 including GCSE English Language (Level 2 Vocational Qualifications at Merit or Distinction will be treated as equivalent to 1 GCSE) 

For Level 3 Extended Diplomas: 5 GCSEs grade 9-4 including GCSE English Language (Level 2 Vocational Qualifications at Merit or Distinction will be treated as equivalent to 1 GCSE) 

For Level 2 Courses: 4 GCSEs grade 9-3, including a GCSE grade 3 in English Language or Mathematics 

All post-16 students without a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or maths are required to continue studying these subjects. Ongoing study is essential for academic progression and a condition of government funding, ensuring key skills for future success.

How do students get to college? 
Students travel to One Sixth Form College in a variety of ways. The College operates a dedicated student bus service serving a range of surrounding towns and villages, including Stowmarket, Harwich, Colchester, Sudbury, Melton and Felixstowe. The service runs throughout term time, and eligible students may be able to access it through the financial support available. 

For those travelling independently, One offers a car parking at the nearby London Road Park & Ride site. 

Is there financial support or a bursary? 
Yes. One Sixth Form College offers financial support through the 16–19 Bursary Fund to help students who may otherwise face financial barriers to continuing their education. Support can contribute towards travel costs, course materials, books and essential equipment. Eligibility is primarily based on household income, with additional consideration given to personal circumstances. In some cases, students living further from the College may receive help with college‑run transport routes. Applications are encouraged for any student experiencing financial need, and support is assessed on an individual basis. 

What support is there for wellbeing and SEND? 
One Sixth Form College provides a wide range of wellbeing and SEND support to help students feel safe, supported and able to succeed. A dedicated Student Welfare and Advice Team offers confidential support for non‑academic concerns, alongside access to free counselling delivered by trained professionals. Students with additional needs benefit from tailored support through Student Services and Personal Progress Tutors, who work closely with individuals throughout their time at College. Support includes safeguarding, emotional wellbeing, practical guidance and help accessing further services when needed, ensuring every student is supported holistically. 

What happens after college? 
After college, students at One Sixth Form College are supported to progress into university, apprenticeships, employment or gap-year opportunities. Dedicated careers guidance includes one-to-one interviews, help with UCAS applications and personal statements, CV support, employer encounters and university events. Many students move on to degree courses across the UK, while apprenticeships offer paid work alongside training and valuable workplace experience. Advice is also available for job searching, interview preparation and planning finances. Some students choose a gap year to travel, volunteer or gain experience before continuing their studies or career, helping them build skills and confidence for the future. 

How do I apply and when? 
You can apply online for a September 2026 start by visiting the One website and clicking “Apply Now”. Applications are completed through the online admissions portal using a personal email address. You’ll need to create an account, verify your email, and complete each section of the application form before submitting it.  

Early applications are recommended to ensure you receive updates, interview invitations, and offers in good time. After applying, regularly check your portal and emails for next steps, including interviews, offers, and key enrolment dates.
