One Sixth Form College was delighted to welcome Jack Abbott MP for a Question and Answer session with students on Wednesday as many of them prepared to vote for the first time in the local elections. He began by talking to the students about how and why he got into politics, to inspire and inform the students on how to engage with politics outside the classroom. Following this, many fantastic questions were asked on topics such as Ipswich town centre; the current party system and rise of small parties; diversity and integration in Ipswich; and, advice on how young people can get more engaged with politics.

The event also coincided with the college's annual Progression Fair, with 40 local and national employers and universities giving students the chance to ask questions, gain insight and explore future pathways. Jack Abbott recognised the importance of the event, saying,

'When I speak to students here, I’m reminded just how important it is that we provide real opportunities, real guidance, and real inspiration. This fair is a brilliant example of how we can level the playing field and raise aspirations and it's great to see so many local and national partners coming together to support students in our community.'
