A group of students from Ipswich are heading to the home of cricket to take part in the National Table Cricket Finals Day. The learners from One Sixth Form College will be travelling to Lords Cricket Ground in London on Wednesday 25 June 2025.
The team of ten initially took part in a county game held in Ipswich before travelling to Newmarket this month where they won their final match by two runs against The Clare School from Norfolk.
They also managed to reach the finals last year where they got to meet England Ashes hero Jack Leach, as well TV personality Matt Lucas from Little Britain fame.
So, this year, the team are determined to become big in Britain by winning this national championship against 12 other teams.
One of the One Sixth Form College squad members is Hamish Crawford, 21, from Ipswich. Hamish is a massive cricket fan who is hoping to channel the efforts of his heroes Joe Root and Ben Stokes by hitting the opposition for six.
Hamish said: “It’s amazing to get back to Lords. We are in it to win it. Being at Lords before will help us massively. I think I will be less nervous this time. If we were to win this - it would be one of the best things ever in my life.”
Another team member is Harrison Mayhew-Kemp, 21, is from Ardleigh in Essex. Harrison is on a media and film course. Harrison has been at One Sixth Form College for five years. He said: “The fact that I get to play table cricket with my friends from One Sixth Form College at Lords is fantastic. I went with my dad last time and he didn’t want to leave. This is like the cricket equivalent of playing at Wembley.”
Daniel Revell, 17, from Ipswich is on a pathway to employability course and this will be his first experience of Lords. Daniel said: “I’m new to the game and started playing a few months ago. It’s a good game – it’s like a version of cricket for people who can’t play the actual game. There is so much skill involved. We want to go there and do well.”
Claire Jones is the head of supported learning at One Sixth Form College and she will be travelling with the team. Claire said: “Everyone in the team brings something different to the table. It would be incredible if they were to win this.”
