24 Year 9 students from Westbourne Academy visited ONE on 25th June to take part in a variety of fun STEM activities.

Students had the opportunity to extract DNA from bananas and build DNA models in Biology, use data loggers to track an acid based chemical reaction in Chemistry, solve a murder mystery using Maths skills, programme their own micro-controllers in ICT and learn about mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles in Engineering.

This was the first day of their 'Routes into STEM' programme organised by EDT, eventually gaining students an 'industrial cadet' qualification. The group will also spend a day at the University of Suffolk and BT Adastral Park to explore all aspects of possible STEM careers and progression routes following their GCSE studies.
