What does the course involve?

Are you creative, innovative and independently driven? Are you passionate about the world of media? Then this is the course for you.

The L3 Extended Diploma in Media & Film is a qualification for students looking to pursue a specialist career in the creative industries. This course is centred around media and film and is a focussed pathway drawn from the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design, and Communication specification.

This qualification has been developed alongside experts from the creative industries including television, film and publishing, to focus on practical and progression focused learning, providing students with opportunities to enter a broader range of higher education, apprenticeships, or employment roles.

Learner work is generated through practical projects, briefs, workshops and engagement with industry, preparing them through the development of portfolios and materials for progression. Our designated and growing media area offers excellent facilities including Adobe digital video and audio editing software, a wealth of industry-standard resources available including the latest iMacs and DSLR/GoPro cameras and a fully-equipped studio.

As well as technical skills, students will also acquire the vital media skills of informing ideas, problem solving, professional practice and communication, supported by a team of specialised media tutors and technicians sharing practice from their wealth of experience and varied backgrounds.

The Media industry incorporates many different roles from research, planning and organising a project, working to deadlines and identifying audiences to the detail and precision of post-production. Therefore, underpinning the vocational side of the course is the analytical study of representations, audiences, industry and textual analysis to enable students to start building the knowledge relevant to a variety of sectors of the media industry.

To allow for a rich and immersive learning experience, students are able to work freely across a range of technical skills areas which reflect current industry practice, including, Graphic Design, Sound, Moving Image, Photography and Visual Effects. What you can be sure of is that no day is ever the same. This course offers students a challenging and stimulating introduction to this ever-expanding field.
