After last year’s sell out production of Chicago, rehearsals at One have just begun as they start their next epic musical journey that aims to bring the whoop to a gold production of Sister Act.

Originally a hit 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act debuted in the West End in 2006. It is now set for a revival when it hits the One stage between 28 and 31 January 2020.

Two of the cast members have been involved in shows at Disneyland in Paris and performed at the Royal Albert Hall.

And three of the dancers have previously worked in professional pantomimes, starring alongside the likes of Lee Latchford-Evans from the band Steps, Debbie McGhee and Paul Daniels.

Dance teacher and one of the choreographers of Sister Act -Tanya Verow - is hoping that this year’s production will be magic. She said, “We wanted to build on the excitement that was created by Chicago and create another top show that has a different kind of vibe to it.

“The story (of Sister Act) covers lots of themes that resonate with everyone. It’s all about inclusion, being yourself and expressing yourself. It’s upbeat and fun and like one of the songs says – everyone wants a bit of fabulous baby.”

16-year-old Avril Maponga from Colchester is playing the lead role of Deloris. She said, “This is my biggest role to date and I’m excited to see what people think of my take on the character. It’s a great show to be involved in as it has comedy, a bit or romance and some great songs.”

16 year old Mia Nelson from Kesgrave, said, “It will exceed all expectations and be lots of fun for the audience.”

Tickets for the shows that all begin at 7.00pm can be purchased via this link: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/suffolkone - prices range from £11 to £39 with some concessions. You can also call 01473 556600 for details.

Three members of the cast (Lydia Davey, Millie Powell and Poppy Walker) - will be involved in this year’s pantomime at the Ipswich Regent starring Hannah Spearritt who gained fame in the pop group S Club 7.
