What does the course involve?

The Level 2 Beauty Therapy course is your first step to becoming a practicing Beauty Therapist. The course consists of a range of units which will allow you to develop your skills and broaden your knowledge as a Beauty Therapist. You will learn to perform a range of Beauty Therapy skills, including facial skin care techniques, manicures, pedicures and waxing treatments. You will perform these skills on real clients within our state-of-the-art working salons.

As well as being a practical course, your teacher will offer their knowledge and experience of the beauty industry, and you will be provided with a variety of enrichment activities to add to your Level 2 qualification. You will also develop knowledge of the skills relating to important areas of study in Beauty Therapy, including health and safety, client care and communication, reception duties, and the promotion of products and services. Anatomy and Physiology (Biology) is an integral part of the course of which you will need to learn, study and revise. This will support the practical units.

There are 13 units in the Level 2 Beauty Therapy course:

  • Unit 201: Working in beauty-related industries
  • Unit 202: Follow health & safety practice in the salon
  • Unit 203: Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
  • Unit 204: Provide facial skin care
  • Unit 205: Promote products and services to clients in a salon
  • Unit 206: Remove hair using waxing techniques
  • Unit 207: Provide manicure treatments
  • Unit 208: Provide pedicure treatments
  • Unit 209: Apply make-up
  • Unit 210: Provide eyelash and brow treatments
  • Unit 215: Provide nail art
  • Unit 216 Salon reception duties 
  • Unit 222: Head massage

Entry Requirements

Standard entry requirements, plus: 

  • Grade 4 English or Maths 
  • GCSE Science grade 3  

Can I take additional qualifications?

This is a full year course and cannot be supplemented with other courses.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on your practical skills at regular opportunities throughout the course, in which you will be given a grade dependent on your level of achievement.  This aspect of the course is a real asset of Beauty Therapy at One, as you will be able to finish the course with a Pass, Merit or Distinction depending on the skills you show, and your progression to Level 3 may depend on your success at higher levels. You will also be assessed on your theoretical knowledge with a written exam.
