A Level Core Maths

What does the course involve?

Core Mathematics is a course designed for post-16 students who want to continue studying mathematics, but not at A-Level. The Core Mathematics qualifications will help you retain, deepen and extend your Mathematics skills, to be better prepared for higher education and employment.

This qualification merits UCAS points the same as an AS Level qualification, and will run over a two year period, with one lesson per week and no homework (except revision for exams).

Core Mathematics will help you understand and apply clear, mathematical reasoning to real-life problems, analyse and interpret data in various contexts and confidently deal with everyday mathematics.

Over 250,000 students go to university and need top up maths courses to help with their studies. Core Mathematics develops knowledge, confidence and understanding in maths in preparation for university study, and universities have now started to give reduced offers to students studying Core Mathematics.

The Mathematical requirement of many A Levels has increased following the recent A Level reforms. Core Mathematics will help you greatly and is strongly recommended for students studying Applied Science, Psychology, Economics, Geography, Business Studies and Biology.

Additionally, employers from all different sectors are firmly behind the Core Mathematics qualifications. Many roles in today’s workplace require high levels of problem-solving skills and Core Mathematics will equip you with these skills.
