Digital Systems and Data V Level
BackCourse Information
Discover the digital world. Build skills for your future.
- Equivalent in size to one A Level
Digital technology is transforming the way we live and work. From data and artificial intelligence to cyber security, networks and digital solutions, employers need people who understand technology and know how to apply it.
The new Level 3 V Level in Digital Systems and Data provides a vocational route into the digital sector and is equivalent in size to one A Level. Starting from September 2027, it gives you the flexibility to combine digital study with other Level 3 qualifications to create a programme that matches your interests, strengths and future ambitions.
What does the course involve?
The Digital Systems and Data V Level develops knowledge and practical skills across modern digital technologies and the ways organisations use systems and data.
You will explore how digital systems work, how data is collected, managed and used, and how digital solutions are designed and developed to meet user needs.
Areas of study will include digital systems and technologies; data and data-driven decision making; cyber security; networks and connectivity; designing and developing digital solutions; programming and low-code approaches; testing and refining solutions; monitoring digital systems; and the safe, legal and responsible use of technology.
Throughout the course you will apply your knowledge to realistic situations, developing solutions and considering user requirements, security, performance and the wider impact of digital technology.
Build your digital programme
Because the Digital Systems and Data V Level is equivalent in size to one A Level, it can be combined with other Level 3 qualifications to create a full three-A-Level-equivalent study programme.
Digital Specialist Pathway
Digital Systems and Data V Level + BTEC National Diploma in IT
Want to make digital technology the main focus of your studies? Combining the Digital Systems and Data V Level with the two-A-Level-equivalent BTEC National Diploma in IT creates a substantial programme focused on computing, IT and digital technology.
This pathway could support progression towards areas such as cyber security, data analytics, software development, cloud computing, IT support, networking and digital technology.
Computing & Software Pathway
Digital Systems and Data V Level + A Level Computer Science + another subject
Combine practical digital learning with Computer Science to develop applied digital skills alongside a deeper understanding of programming, algorithms and computational thinking. A third subject can then be selected to create a full programme suited to future plans, for example Mathematics, Business, Physics or Media.
Flexible Digital Pathway
Digital Systems and Data V Level + two other Level 3 subjects
Digital skills are valuable across almost every industry. Students can combine the V Level with two other subjects, bringing digital knowledge into another area that interests them.
- Digital Systems and Data V Level + Business + Economics
- Digital Systems and Data V Level + Computer Science + Mathematics
- Digital Systems and Data V Level + Business + Mathematics
