Course Information

Course TypeLevel 3
Duration2 years

Turn numbers into decisions. Understand what makes organisations succeed.

If you enjoy working with numbers, solving problems and understanding how businesses make financial decisions, the Accounting & Finance V Level could be the perfect course for you.

This new Level 3 qualification combines the theory of accounting and finance with practical, work-related learning. Rather than simply learning concepts, you will use financial information to investigate real organisational situations, identify patterns, evaluate performance and make informed recommendations.

You will develop the skills to understand what financial information is really telling us. You might analyse whether an organisation is profitable, investigate why costs have changed, compare financial performance over time, interpret budgets or consider whether an investment represents a good business decision.

Entry Requirements

Six GCSEs at grade 9 to 4, to include a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and a grade 5 in GCSE Maths preferred.

What will I learn?

Throughout the course you will develop confidence in working logically and methodically with financial information. You will learn how to:

  • analyse financial statements and assess an organisation's financial position
  • calculate and interpret profitability, liquidity, efficiency and solvency ratios
  • use percentages, margins, contribution and variance calculations
  • identify financial patterns and trends
  • interpret cash flow, budgets and performance information
  • use break-even information and graphical representations
  • compare different financial options and make justified recommendations
  • consider both financial and non-financial factors when making decisions
  • understand accounting principles and how business transactions affect financial performance
  • explore ethics, regulation, sustainability and risk within accounting and finance
  • understand how spreadsheets, digital accounting systems and AI are changing the finance profession.

How is a V Level different from an A Level?

A V Level is the same size as one A Level, but the style of learning is different. While A Levels are primarily academic qualifications, V Levels are designed as a broad vocational pathway, combining subject knowledge with its application to realistic workplace and organisational situations.

So you won't just learn a formula and reproduce it. You will be expected to understand when to use it, what the result means and how that information could influence a real financial decision.

That makes the course particularly suited to students who enjoy:

Numbers + problem solving + business + practical application.

You will still be challenged academically, but there is a greater emphasis on analysing information, applying your knowledge and communicating recommendations rather than learning theory in isolation. The qualification also develops transferable skills including critical thinking, problem solving, judgement, decision making and professional communication.

Where could it take me?

The V Level provides a strong foundation for progression into university, higher education, higher or degree apprenticeships and professional training. Relevant areas include accounting, finance, business, economics and related disciplines.

It could be particularly useful if you are considering a future career in areas such as accountancy, banking, financial services, business management, auditing, financial analysis or corporate finance.

A qualification built for the real world

Accounting isn't just about producing a set of numbers. Modern finance professionals need to interpret information, spot problems, assess risk and help organisations make better decisions.

The Accounting & Finance V Level is designed to help you start developing exactly those skills.
