What does the course involve?
The Level 3 Foundation Programme - Your Pathway to Progress has been established with the aim to address the needs of learners who may require extra support and or guidance before starting their Level 3 studies (A-level equivalent).
Students will be supported to develop their skills in independent study and strategies to support their own growth and development. They will strengthen their study skills and improve academic performance whilst exploring future career options.
This is a one-year study programme designed to meet individual needs.
The programme includes five subject study areas maths, English, Science, IT and Citizenship. This combination will allow students to improve their grade profile and expand their options for progressing to a mixed Level 3 study programme.
Students will build on independent study skills, and career planning and exploring vocational studies, community and working life.
What you'll learn
Five subjects, with grades equivalent to five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including:
English - Most Level 3 programmes require strong language proficiency to excel. The English study programme supports you to continue to develop your skills in English and help you to maximise your ability to critically evaluate information you are reading, and develop effective writing skill to support you in your further studies
Maths - continuing to strengthen your mathematical knowledge is essential for preparing for working life. this is a fundamental requirement for many subjects and apprenticeships at level 3 and helps studies in areas such as psychology, sciences and information technology
Science - many jobs require students to have a strong foundation in science. Applied science helps you to consolidate your current knowledge of science whilst developing practical scientific techniques. The study programme support students to continue to develop their skills in all three sciences and provides a strong platform for future learning in many disciplines, including clinical health, sociology and environmental science
Information Technology - this programme is designed to strengthen students working skills in the use of technology within working life and how to develop skills that will both enhance study skills and support in career exploration and boost employability.
Citizenship Studies - focuses on modern British society, politics, law and rights, this programme empowers students to become informed active citizens. It allows students to continue to develop their skills in the humanities working on evidence building, critical thinking, debating, researching and project work- all of which support students with their academic skill development as well as building the skills to prepare for community and working life.

Entry Requirements
To join the Level 3 Foundation Programme, you’ll need:
- 5 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above
- Grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language or maths
- At least Grade 3 in one Science subject
