A Level Religious Studies focuses on Philosophy & Ethics modules and is an engaging and fascinating subject for those students who enjoy asking questions about the nature of human existence and the world in which we inhabit. Students reflect upon, analyse and evaluate a range of current issues, gaining crucial skills and in-depth knowledge.

The A Level Religious Studies course covers three main areas; the Philosophy of Religion, Ethics and Buddhism. In the Philosophy of Religion, students explore arguments for and against the existence of God and analyse a range of religious phenomenon such as religious experiences and miracles.

Students engage with a range of issues relating to human and animal life and death ranging from the use of animals in organ transplantation and blood sports to areas of medical ethics such as euthanasia and genetic engineering. Students learn a range of ethical theories, such as utilitarianism, and apply them to such issues in order to evaluate their success.

Finally, in the study of Buddhism, students build an in-depth knowledge of Buddhist beliefs in a range of fascinating areas such as the relationship between religion and science, gender and sexuality, and multiculturalism.
