What was your favourite thing about studying at One?
I think my favourite thing was getting to meet so many different people from around Suffolk and Essex who I otherwise wouldn't have had the chance to meet. I miss having the opportunity to get involved with clubs such as the jazz band and socializing with my friends.
How did you decide on your career path?
I always knew that the 'traditional' a-levels with exams didn't really interest me although I wanted to pursue some sort of higher education. In year 11, I decided to explore the options that were available to me and found that Suffolk One did Level 3 BTEC's which were more coursework based that suited me more. I've always had an interested in Forensics and so when I saw they offered a course doing this I knew that I had to apply.
How did your course help you to prepare for your next step?
The courses that I did really helped me with what I needed to know for my current role as a Cyber Security Apprentice. I had the opportunity to learn about a range of different techniques that are used in real business situations. It also taught me how to balance my workload effectively which has been really useful in a professional working environment.
Is there any advice you can give to current students to help them prepare for their next steps?
My advice would be make the most of the support and opportunities available to you and if you are stuck- ask. One has a great support network and teachers were always willing to help you or give you opportunities to visit places so you could see the theory you had been working on in the real world. Since leaving One, I've been part of a few big organizations as well as attending many international events and sometimes they can be quite busy environments. Because One is such a big environment anyway, it gave me the confidence to ask people around me for help when I needed it. I didn't make me feel so intimidated when joining such a big company as I was used to seeing lots of people anyway!
