One Appoints New Principal

One has appointed a new principal who will take charge in August 2019.

Jenny Milsom has been chosen to take over from the current principal (Alan Whittaker) who announced that he will be retiring from his role at the end of this academic year.

One Sixth Form College is part of Suffolk Academies Trust and the high performing Eastern Colleges Group, alongside Abbeygate Sixth Form College (currently under construction) in Bury St Edmunds and West Suffolk College (located in Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Ipswich, Newmarket, Sudbury, Stowmarket and Thetford) which is one of the top 3 colleges in the UK.

Dr Nikos Savvas, Chief Executive of Suffolk Academies Trust said "We had a very strong field of candidates and after a long and thorough recruitment process - including a two day interview, we were very impressed with Jenny's vision, commitment and leadership. We are confident that Jenny is the right person to lead One Sixth Form College and we are very much looking forward to continuing to work with her in her new role".

Jenny has worked in education for three decades. She is currently the deputy principal of One (a role she has had since the college opened in September 2010). Prior to that, she worked in a variety of senior roles in the eastern region.

Jenny is excited about making her own mark on the college. She said, "I have been given the opportunity to lead a talented, committed and passionate community of students and staff through the next phase of the development of One Sixth Form College. It is a challenge that I am extremely excited about and I will be looking to build on the excellent work that has been achieved so far, thanks to Alan and indeed all the staff, students and stakeholders who have helped make this college a success story for the region. I am looking forward to working with colleagues across the Eastern Colleges Group, in assisting in a successful opening of Abbeygate Sixth Form College in September 2019 and to broadening opportunities for students in the eastern region. The students of One Sixth Form College go to prestigious universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, work for FTSE 100 companies and even win awards in Hollywood. That is a legacy I want to continue".
