A film wizard from Suffolk who has worked on the Harry Potter franchise was one of several guests who participated in a series of media masterclasses in Ipswich.

20-year-old Alfie Vaughan offered advice to students at One, a place where he studied for two years.

Originally from Holbrook, Mr Vaughan gained a job four weeks after leaving One and now lives in London and works for The Mill - a media company who helped create the new John Lewis Christmas advert.

He was taking part in an event called Creative Industries Day at One, an occasion that invites guests from various companies to give an overview of how to get ahead in the media.

Representatives from the British Film Institute, Creative Nation, Gabbitt Media, iSite, Screen Suffolk and Spring Agency, joined Mr Vaughan. A photography expert (Anthony Cullen) and a journalism lecturer (Paul Anderson) also attended.

Mr Vaughan, who now lives in North Greenwich in London, said, “At this event I talked through my portfolio and explained my journey.

“I discussed my time at The Mill that has allowed me to work on the Harry Potter Wizard Unites trailer and a music video for The Chemical Brothers.

“All in all, it’s really nice to be back and I miss it a lot. I like what I do now – but studying at One was probably the best two years of my life. Being here was enormously positive.”

Anthony Cullen from Pin Mill is an award winning freelance photographer. He said, “I talked to the students about the business and they were very receptive.

“I said have more ideas than time, keep it fresh and always deliver. I also said that you don’t have to be in London – you can definitely live around here (Suffolk) and London is only an hour away. So you have the best of both worlds.”

Organiser, Alastair Bartett, said, “This event is all about giving students insights into the many careers that are available in creative industries.

“We had some amazing speakers and we would like to thank them for supporting us. It was also great to see Alfie again,” he added.
