Two former One Sixth Form College students are beginning to build their careers after landing tops jobs with two large construction companies.

Liam Swann and Emma West were supported in their job finding efforts thanks to a link up with the New Anglia LEP.

During their time at One, they were offered ongoing careers advice from James Potter – the MD of a company called Super Structures – who helped prepare the talented duo for a life after A-levels. (Mr Potter gave up his time as part of his voluntary role as a New Anglia Enterprise Adviser).

Mr Potter was so impressed by the students during one to one sessions at One, so he offered Liam and Emma the chance to progress when they had finished their studies.

Liam was given an interview (at Super Structures) which he passed with flying colours and Emma was given an opportunity to speak with a company called SEH French and she has recently been given a full time position.

Liam will now work from Super Structures whilst studying on a civil engineering degree and Emma has been offered a trainee quantity surveyor’s position at SEH FRENCH. She will also be placed on a (quantity surveying) degree that will be funded by her new employer.

Liam said, “I’m so grateful for this opportunity.”

Emma, said, “Some of my family have jobs in construction so I knew it was the sort of environment I wanted to work in. I’m thankful for the support I have been given through the One and the New Anglia Enterprise Network.”

Glen Todd is the Enterprise Adviser Network Manager for the New Anglia LEP. He said, “It’s great to see that Superstructures and SEH French have provided these Apprenticeship opportunities to Liam and Emma as a result of their engagement with the Enterprise Adviser Network.”

Deputy Principal at One Sixth Form College, Michelle Hughes, said, “As a sixth form, we pride ourselves on the personal development opportunities that we offer our students. Working with businesses is obviously high on our agenda to ensure that our students have the very best opportunities when preparing for their future. It’s great to see Liam and Emma doing so well, and we would like to thank the New Anglia LEP and James from Super Structures for their ongoing support.”
