Teachers honoured during annual art and fashion showcase

One hosted an annual fashion show and exhibition to celebrate the talent and creativity of our art students.

During the ceremony, Steve Talmadge, an art teacher who is set to retire, was recognised for his efforts in supporting students at One since the college opened in 2010.

Retirement aside, the evening started with a fashion show that showed off creations of current textiles learners before Emma Connolly, head of art at One, presented a series of awards to top performing students. Emma said, "This event is the pinnacle our year and it's a celebration of all of our student's work. As a department we feel lucky that we get to work with these young people day in and day out."

Awards were handed out to Chloe Burns, Chloe Hall, Armani Wilson, Louise Hoskin, Lily Leeks, Isiah Jordan, Frankie Fisk, Bee Wilson, Louella Daniels, Lauren Daniel, Amelia Anderson, Sophie Marvin, Ross Goode, Chloe Burns and Kit Harold in most accomplished and most promising categories spanning years 12, 13 and 14.

Ethan Clark and Ellie Clarke also received the Geraldine Milsom Award and a meal voucher for Milsoms in Kesgrave for their artistic efforts.

On receiving her award Milsoms award, 17 year old Ellie from Ipswich, said, "One is lovely place to study and everyone is there to support you 24/7."

One final award was given to a student in memory of a much missed photography teacher (Gordon Hawes) who passed away in 2017.

The recipient of the Gordon Haws photography award went to Joshua Betteridge. On claiming his prize, 18 year old Joshua, said, "Gordon was kind to everyone. Whatever you did he would always have a positive outlook on it. Usually you dread getting things wrong – with Gordon, you were never wrong."

On his future, he added, "I'm off to study performing arts at university from September, but I'm going to keep his legacy alive. I'm taking my camera along (to university) and I'll always be taking pictures."

Alice Sandon is a producer from The Pacitti Company and she was the guest presenter on the night. She said, "You barely see this kind of art work at university level and you are seeing this here at One right now – it's absolutely incredible."
