As You Like It Theatre Review – A2 English Literature Trip
As You Like It is one of the texts that is studied as part of the A2 English Literature course at Suffolk One. Coincidentally, the House theatre company were performing the play at Ipswich Wolsey Theatre for one week just at the same time as the students at One began to study the play. So, on Wednesday 16th October, the A2 literature students from One made their way down to the theatre and enjoyed a Shakespeare-filled afternoon.
As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s greatest and most famous works, so, naturally, there have been many innovative and novel interpretations of the play over the years. The House theatre company’s performance was no different, opting for a modern – and slightly tragic – version. Whilst not to everyone’s taste – including some of the teachers – the play was acted out extremely well in front of a packed Wolsey Theatre, and was much appreciated by the A2 group, who were able to start getting their heads round Shakespeare’s As You Like It in preparation for the summer exam! Overall, a great afternoon and an extremely useful trip for Suffolk One’s literature students, who will continue to study the play over the course of the year alongside other texts.
