Over the past two weeks music students have been lucky enough to have visitors from UCS and BIMM (Brighton Institute of Modern Music) to speak to them about possible degrees and career paths in music and music technology. Steven Coltart from the UCS Music Production course, based in Bury St Edmunds, came across and spoke to the Year 12 BTEC Music Performance class, and other interested students, about the course they offer and lots of other useful information about working in the music industry. We are hoping to do more collaborations with them in the future. Year 13 Music Technology student Sam Barnard joined some of the degree students at The Apex, Bury St. Edmunds to record local orchestra Suffolk Sinfonia last weekend. Sam found this an invaluable experience as he is wanting to study music technology at university.
BIMM came in to speak to students and brought in a band called Beautiful Country who are made up of ex-students who studied at BIMM and the Tech Music School in London. The band performed 3 songs. Nicky Williams who works for BIMM spoke to students about their courses and the options available to you if you want to work within the music industry.
Our ex-students’ band Polar Collective are currently embarking on a schools tour within Suffolk and Essex in collaboration with IEM (Industry Education in Music), One College and BIMM. The band are working with students on song-writing, talking to them about the opportunities in music and performing arts at One and performing a gig to high school students at the end of the day.
The next big event for the music students is the Winter Concert on Wednesday 18th December at 7pm in the performance space. Tickets will go on sale at the start of December for this event.
