During February and March, Year 12 Hotel Management students have been on a one day work placement scheme in the Cookhouse at the Suffolk Food Hall. This follows from a visit to the site in November. The business is quite unique in the Suffolk area, and students have been given a great opportunity.
The link has enabled the students to experience the variety of Hospitality activities, working front-of-house in the restaurant and bar and preparing food in the kitchen. The purpose of the scheme was to link in with Customer service activities as part of their assignment work. The expectations of the customer that visit the Cookhouse allowed students to adapt and modify their customer service skills, which will broaden the depth of their understanding of the topic.
Lucy McNicholas, Hotel Management teacher said “Students enjoyed their placement; learning the skills of the Barista, working behind the bar, and serving in & preparing food for the breath-taking Cookhouse restaurant. The fresh and local ingredients that are used by the Cookhouse enabled the students to create and serve delicious food. The students would like to thank all those who helped them and feel the experience was thoroughly rewarding.”
