On 25th March 2014 students from Biology and Human Biology attended a conference at Essex University. The aim was to improve their knowledge of pathways and progression in both biological sciences and sports science. They were able to gain a flavour of the sorts of research that top universities undertake with a range of talks including whether Bolt is a freak of nature and the bleaching of the world’s coral reefs. They were also given the opportunity to view the universities facilities, and perform experiments on PCR, investigate drosophila genetics and delve into the exciting world of biomechanics. They received information on what it’s like to be a graduate and post-graduate at university as well as a lively and challenging motivational performance from a guest speaker.
