The Port of Felixstowe is Britain’s biggest and busiest container port, and one of the largest in Europe handling, 40% of the UK containerised trade. They employ over 200 people in the engineering department alone and operate a three year apprenticeship that starts each August. Jon Griggs, Senior Technician at Port of Felixstowe, supported by Lydia French from HR department and James Smithe a 2nd Year apprentice, delivered a very informative presentation one Monday 23rd Feb to all our Year 12 Level 3 Engineering students. It gave a valuable insight into their training scheme and the engineering opportunities at Felixstowe Port. We have already arranged to have the team come back to Suffolk One next month to meet the Year 13 students and are hoping to visit the port with students after Easter, for a tour of the facility.
