Last Friday evening One Voice performed as part of a Celebration of Schools’ Music at Snape Malting’s Concert Hall. This is a yearly event and brings together performers from schools across Suffolk. 2013 is the centenary of well-known Suffolk composer Benjamin Britten’s birth, founder of Aldeburgh Music and Snape Malting’s Concert Hall. Each evening last week culminated with a Finale featuring all the schools’ that had taken part. One students assisted with directing the Finale performance and did a fantastic job of leading younger students in the singing and dance moves!
One Voice were the final group to perform and sang three pieces at the concert all by Suffolk composers. The first – ‘Something’s Listening’ by Francis Goodhand, who also accompanied One Voice, started off a ‘sophisticated’ programme of music. The second piece The Rainbow, by Benjamin Britten, is a challenging piece to perform but One Voice did a superb job to a mesmerised audience. The choir ended their programme with ‘The Devil’s List’ composed by One Voice’s Musical Director Amy Mallett and featuring Year 13 A Level Music student, Liam Self, as the soloist. This piece features in Amy’s forthcoming musical ‘The Witchfinder Project’.
Well done to everyone that took part in the concert.
