Following on the back of sell-out performances of ‘We Will Rock You’ in 2012, (Suffolk) One is putting the final touches to a new production of the classic Broadway musical, Guys and Dolls.
Auditions took place in September last year and an array of quality local acting talent will put on a show that runs from Tuesday 26 Feb to Friday 1 March 2013.
A mixture of students from all areas of the college are involved in a cast that includes Megan Vaughn – who has previously sung Any Dream Will Do with Jason Donovan at the Ipswich Regent - and Charlie Brightman, who was featured in a video with Sarah Brightman.
Staff have played a big role in helping Guys and Dolls get to the stage. Lois Hinsley is in charge of the band, Amy Mallet is the vocal coach, and Rosie Beattie and Michael Platt have been directing proceedings.
Michael Platt – the former director of the Suffolk Youth Theatre, said, “As the production date approaches we are at the exciting stage of drawing all the strands of music, drama, dance and design together. Over the next three weeks the final touches are being put to the production - Dave Hermon’s fantastic set, and period costumes sourced and created by Lou Chambers will be transporting audiences to the colourful streets of 1950s New York in what I am sure will be an evening of first class entertainment for all the family.”
Megan Vaughn – who plays Miss Adelaide, said, “The experience that I am getting out of Guys and Dolls is amazing, the teachers are working so hard (along with the students) to create an amazing show.”
Ben McQuilliam – who plays Nathan Detroit, said, “Being in a show like 'Guys and Dolls' has been a completely new experience for me. The team have been great and audiences should expect some proper good laughs.”
Ben Townley, said, “I can't wait for opening night, to perform 'Sit down you're rocking the boat' is going to be a memorable, exciting experience, that I hope the audience enjoy as much as I have."
