On Tuesday 20th May the Hotel Management students visited the Fred Olsen Cruise ship The Braemar, while it was in dock in Harwich after a cruise in Norway. As part of their BTEC course the students have been investigating personal selling and promotional activities the company use to entice new customers, get repeat custom, and attract customers who have been with other cruise lines.
The students boarded the ship, and as the ship is classified as ‘international waters’ they had to go through passport control and security scans – they set no alarms off! They were then given a tour of the ship including the ‘Bridge’ where they met the captain who explained the navigational tools. They then moved onto the cabins, looking at the different grades of cabins available. Finally they saw the huge variety of restaurants, entertainment and leisure facilities available to passengers on board.
Before the ship left for a cruise of France and Spain, there was an opportunity to meet the VIPs from Ipswich Town Football Club who were also on board that day.
