On Friday 30th June a number of students studying Music Technology and Music Performance headed down to the Institute of Contemporary Music (ICMP) in Kilburn, London. The students got to take part in workshops hosted by the music college. One of their current BA Song writing students, Daniel Jacklin, studied Music Performance at Suffolk One, and it's been great to hear how well he has been getting on in London.
The first session the students took part in was about Careers In The Music Industry. This included the courses ICMP offer and also the importance of networking in the industry and making contacts. In the afternoon the Music Performance students took part in an audition workshop with an industry expert who gave our students some really great feedback and he was very impressed by the standard of their performance. The Music Technology group got to work in one of ICMP's studios and were shown some 'tricks and tips' for working with MIDI and mixing.
On Wednesday 5th July a number of BTEC Performing Arts students and A-level Musicians went to London to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to see their end of year musical 'Crazy For You'. The students were wowed by the high standard from the cast, band and technical crew. This Gershwin jazz musical is very much a 'classic' in the musical theatre repertoire and it is touring again soon around the country. The students were also fortunate enough to see a Harp Recital earlier in the afternoon of very talented musicians performing in their end of year recitals.
Two of our Alto Saxophonists sat grade exams this week and both achieved Merits. Brogan Willis in Grade 6 and Bethanie Clements in Grade 8. Both girls have studied with college saxophone teacher Phil Marshall and have developed enormously in both technique and confidence since they started at Suffolk One. Well done Brogan and Bethanie!
