On Thursday 13th February students from One had a really exciting day visiting the BT Work Inspiration Event at Adastral Park, Martlesham. Students were welcomed and given an introduction to the event by a senior BT manager. The students were then divided into 10 groups with each group taking part in seven 40 minute workshops throughout the day which included teamwork tasks or a presentation.
The most popular 'pod' experience, voted by the students, had to be the 'Openreach' pod. Students got to speak to Openreach employees who had only been working for BT for several months as apprentices. They spoke to them about completing their A Levels and how they applied. Students were able to use their equipment to fault find and see what type of tasks they did daily. This was really inspirational.
The teamwork tasks involved a supply chain management task, where they were put into five teams and represented different parts of the supply chain. At the end of the supply chain they had a customer, who was either happy or angry!
The teamwork puzzle task was carried out by the second group very well and had the second best time of the day. Helped by their teacher Rachel! (Who secretly loves puzzles!) They had to complete three puzzles in 30 minutes. The pieces had three/four pieces hidden on the other two tables.
Overall the students had a great day and took away some key points that have inspired them to apply for a BT apprenticeship.
