Our archaeology students were invited to visit the brand new state of the art Conservation and Restoration Labs at the University of Lincoln. The students were introduced to the Department by Senior Lecture Henning Schulze and Dr Rachel Faulding. After a presentation the students were shown around the labs and were able to ask the undergraduate and Masters students direct questions regarding the work they were undertaking.
After breaking for a quick lunch the students were then given a lecture on Historic Paint sampling which follows some similar processes and requires transferable skills learnt in archaeology. There was also an opportunity to carry out an exercise in object identification and handling. The trip really gave the students an insight into the academic world of conservation and built upon their practical understanding of the subject.
