The Exhibition is organised by the Ipswich Art Society, and is aimed specifically at young artists. A selection of our students art work was chosen and submitted to the Anna Airy Exhibition which is being held at UCS today. Two of our students won a Certificate of Commendation for this year’s exhibition; Ben Lloyd “Grandad” and Sophie Parker “Rubik’s Cube”.
The Anna Airy Award Fund was set up in 1965 in memory of Anna Airy (1882-1964). Anna was one of the most distinguished painters of her generation, with work represented in many major national collections, and was President of the Ipswich Art Club (as the Ipswich Art Society was then called) for 19 years. Also a teacher at the Ipswich School of Art, her students regarded her as a brilliant and inspirational teacher and in the Art Club’s Annual Open Exhibitions she made sure there was always a ‘student section’, to give young artists the opportunity to exhibit their work to the public in the setting of an art gallery.
