At One we look to the future after studies, be it employment, education or training, but one lunchtime club enjoys looking back into the past. Run by the History department, the number of students attending the ancestry club has grown week on week. Intrigued by family history, the students use the online archives of Ancestry.com to hunt through certificates, records and documents to delicately piece together, bit by bit their family history. In A level study, source analysis is a vital skill in interpreting and understanding the subject. Through the ancestry club students are learning how to utilise online sources to plan, map and investigate; identifying links and connections between family members even unearthing some unknown family pasts.
‘I find it really interesting to find out where my family stem from, it’s useful to have Marcus and Jenny here to help us to understand what we are looking at , I am looking forward to finding out more’ – Katie Smith, History Student
