Diploma Level 3 - Performing Arts Extended Diploma

    • Description

    WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?

This course is a vocational course, this means that it is a practical, work-related course.

You will study eleven units and five of these are externally assessed core units. Learners will follow the Musical Theatre pathway.

    • Prepare to work in the Performing Arts Sector (External)
    • Proposal for a Commissioning Brief (External)
    • Influential Performance Practice (External)
    • Arts Administration (External)
    • Original Performance (External)
    • Acting Technique (Internal)
    • Dance Technique (Internal)
    • Singing Technique (Internal)

    Other units may include:

    • Musical Theatre Performance
    • Combined Arts
    • Performing Repertoire
    • Dance Performance
    • Create music to perform
    • Singing performance

Throughout the course you will learn about: style and context of performances genres, audition techniques, planning, repertoire, rehearsal skills, collaborating with others and being able to review and analyses a host of performances. You will study a variety of units which will allow you the opportunity to develop skills and broaden knowledge as a performer across all three disciplines. There will be opportunities to perform to a range of different audiences and create work in a variety of different Dance, Drama and Music styles and genres as well as integrating the three together.

WHAT DO I NEED TO JOIN THE COURSE?

A GCSE in any Performing Arts subject at grade 9 - 4; or its equivalent vocational qualification at Merit or Distinction.  However, if this has not been taken, then considerable practical experience is required in Performing Arts. Following an interview prospective students may be called to enjoy a group audition workshop to ensure suitability of the chosen Performing Arts course.

    CAN I TAKE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS?

This course is equivalent of 3 A Levels and it does not need to be supplemented by other qualifications. However, it is possible to do an additional course from our range of A Levels and BTEC Subsidiary Diplomas. You can discuss the suitable combinations at interview.

    HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course is designed, on the whole, as a practical course and most of the marks are awarded based on the work done in workshops, and during performances. There are five external core units which are based on a brief set by the exam board, one of which is a written exam, but the others are based upon rehearsals and a final performance. There are written elements to the course that provide evidence of work: these may include a workshop diary, reviews, evaluations and personal portfolios.

    WHAT ARE THE COSTS?

There are no costs to study on any of our courses. Students should budget for trips to performances and concerts in order to gain maximum benefit from all of the Performing Arts courses. These will take place periodically throughout the year at a cost of approximately £15 - £20 per trip.

    WHAT IS THE DURATION?

This is a two year course.
