WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?
Are you creative, innovative and organised? Do you want to work in the media? Then this is the course for you. The Media industry incorporates many different roles from research, planning and organising a project, filming, photography, working to deadlines and identifying audience to the detail and precision of post-production. What you can be sure of is that no day is ever the same. This course offers students a challenging and stimulating introduction to this expanding field.
You will get an excellent grounding in the work-based skills used in a range of media-related areas including television, film and publishing. There will be opportunities to explore planning, construction and editing as well as all the work-based aspects of working to a client brief.
The work is accomplished using excellent facilities including Adobe digital video and audio editing software. There is a wealth of industry-standard resources available including iMacs and DSLR/GoPro cameras to use, and students will have support from a team of specialised media tutors and technicians. We also have a designated Media area with a studio. Students will also acquire the vital media skills of managing productions, working in teams, researching, interviewing and presenting. Underpinning the vocational side of the course is the analytical study of Representations, Audiences, Industry and Textual Analysis to enable students to start building the technical skills and knowledge relevant to a variety of sectors of the media industry.
Some of the projects students explore are Advert, Music video, TV drama, Magazines and Photography.
WHAT DO I NEED TO JOIN THE COURSE?
GCSE Media (if taken) at grade 9-4; or its equivalent vocational qualification at Merit or Distinction. Students must have an enthusiastic interest in Media Production which should be demonstrated at interview.
CAN I TAKE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS?
This course is equivalent of 3 A Levels and it does not need to be supplemented by other qualifications. However, it is possible to do an additional course from our range of A Levels and BTEC Subsidiary Diplomas. You can discuss the suitable subject combinations at interview.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The course has a variety of assessments, including:
- External onscreen exam (2hrs).
- Four externally assessed units from pre-released materials.
- A variety of internally assessed creative and practical units.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS?
There are no charges to study this course. However there may be some costs for trips.
