WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?
Gaming is a huge industry which is rapidly expanding, particularly in East Anglia. Games can take many forms and are not just used for recreational purposes but also as marketing tools and ways of communicating a message about a service, product or campaign. This Level 3 Games Design course is an excellent complement to other practical and computing based subjects such as Media, Graphic Design, Engineering, ICT and Computing.
Over the course of two years you will learn the background to gaming and also the necessary practical and creative skills to create your own games which people will be able to play.
You will develop specific skills in using Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender and Unity to create 3D Models, 2d game assets, Animations, and environments as well as how to create computer games. This course is designed to be work-based and relies on you using your problem-solving and creative skills and managing your project effectively.
These skills are not only applicable to games design but to a variety of career paths. The 2d and 3d graphic skills can be applied to architecture, landscape design, film making, geographical simulations, art, engineering, 3d printing and much more.
Having completed this course you can progress straight into employment or higher education. UCS runs a successful Level 4 Games Design course at their Waterfront Campus. Employment opportunities include: Digital Animator; Computer Games Designer; Graphic Designer; interactive media designer, 3D architectural designer and Web Designer.
WHAT DO I NEED TO JOIN THE COURSE?
General entry requirements for A Levels. Students must have an enthusiastic interest in Gaming, ICT, 3D Graphics and Digital Animation which should be demonstrated at interview.
CAN I TAKE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS?
This qualification can be taken alongside a combination of A Levels and/or Extended Certificates. You can discuss the suitable subject combinations at interview.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
There will be internal and external assessment of written and practical assignments.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS?
There are no charges to study this course. However there may be some costs for trips.

This is a two year course.
